Now Indian most cheapest tablet named as "Akash"
is growing day by day. In December, it was announced that
the much talked about Aakash tablet would be available to Mumbai students for
just Rs 1,138. It has almost been a month now and the University of Mumbai has
already received around 25,000 requests for the low-cost computing device,
states a TOI report. Students from around 90 colleges and departments across the
university's jurisdiction have sent across their requests for the device. The
university is expecting many more requests for the tablet in the coming phases.
Also, the report states that the first phase of requests will be sent by this
weekend.
The scheme of offering the
tablets at a subsidized price for students was extended to all universities in
Maharashtra by the human resources development ministry. The university had sent
out a circular last month to all affiliated colleges and departments, asking
students to get in touch with their respective department heads to file their
requests for the device.
Out of all the colleges which have put in their
requests, the maximum number of applications (2262) for the device have been
received by Vivek College in Goregaon. Mohan Kumar, convener of the National
Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT)
from the university, said, "Colleges in far-off places like Alibaug also have
demanded the device in large numbers." He said that the requests for the device
are still coming in. "There will be a second phase. The Center is currently just
seeking details from all the states. Once the numbers are clear, they will be
sending the request to the vendor," he added.
