The role of DNS service is to pass information to CDNs (Content Distribution Networks) so they can send users to nearby servers.

Google Public DNS was launched in December 2009 to help make the web faster.

Google Public DNS servers are also now available in countries like Australia, India, Japan, and Nigeria.
