Microsoft has rewritten the entire Windows operating system when it launches its newest version next in the line called Windows 8. If you are developing applications with Windows Phone 7.5 and metro-style apps, you will see familiarities in Windows 8.

Windows 8 Developer Preview is available now and after installing and breaking my new Sony Viao laptop, I learned I should have read Mamta's post Comprehensive Resource Guide to Windows 8 Developer Preview.

If you are planning to toy around with Windows 8 Developer Preview, you may download it here but I highly recommend read Comprehensive Resource Guide to Windows 8 Developer Preview blog post before you take any decision.

Anyway, if you have already installed Windows 8 and wondering what is Windows 8 logo all about. It looks like a Flag or box or window? In a blog post published by Sam Moreau, Sam has explained how Windows 8 logo is actually supposed to be a window, not a flag.

Here is a cool Windows logos from Windows 1.0 to Windows 8.

In his blog, Sam writes:

The logo is designed to keep in mind both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. It was important that the new logo carries our Metro principle of being “Authentically Digital”. By that, we mean it does not try to emulate faux-industrial design characteristics such as materiality (glass, wood, plastic, etc.). It has motion – aligning with the fast and fluid style you'll find throughout Windows 8. Our final goal was for the new logo to be humble, yet confident. Welcoming you in with a slight tilt in perspective and when you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you. It is a “Personal” Computer after all.
